Photon Energy connects one of the largest rooftop PV plants in Australia

Sydney, 31st March 2013 – Photon Energy Australia has connectedone of the biggest rooftop solar power plants in Australia inSydney. The 284 kWp power plant is located in a major officebuilding in Sydney’s Commercial Business District. As thebuilding’s main daytime power source and will dramatically reducethe building’s utility bills and help achieve a high NABERS andGreen Star Rating. With new financing options and no need forupfront investment costs for customers solar energy is fastbecoming the most cost effective way of achieving energyefficiency.

Photon Energy Engineering Australia, a subsidiary of globalsolar power solutions and services company Photon Energy, hasrecently completed the construction of a large solar power systemfor a major office building in Sydney’s Central Business District(CBD). The 283 kWp power plant has been commissioned and is up andrunning. The solar power plant supplements the building’s maindaytime energy source.

The power plant will produce 371,000 kWh annually, saving 352tons of CO2 each year and will assist in achieving a 5 StarGreenstar and 5 Star NABERS rating. The power plant will be used tocover daytime loads with the possibility to export surpluses to thegrid, thus generating additional revenue. The system is designed tocover a certain amount of electricity to the building per annum inorder to meet the NABERS rating and utilises the available roofsurfaces and exposed facades to maximise the output per squaremeter at the lowest cost per kWh.

„Solar energy is rapidly changing the way Australians look atenergy consumption”, says Michael Gartner Managing Director ofPhoton Energy Australia. “With new financing models available, suchas solar leasing or power purchase agreements, customers can nowhave their own rooftop power plant with no upfront investment. Justcosts savings”, Gartner continues.

“PV-systems for self-consumption raise a company’sprofile, which can be a vital factor in a market where customersincreasingly demand that corporates walk the talk on resourceefficiency”, says Georg Hotar, CEO of Photon Energy Group. Solarenergy as a power source protects companies against volatile andgrowing energy prices, thereby raising shareholder value andprovides a competitive advantage.

“We are proud to be associated with this flagship project, whichhighlights that solar PV has reached the tipping point of becomingthe most cost effective way of achieving energy efficiency and is aviable choice even given the constraints of inner city locations”,Gartner concludes.
